Agartala, February 25: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Wednesday that Haryana’s Chief Minister, Nayab Singh Saini, has assured him of justice regarding the brutal assault on a Tripura student in Gurugram.
The 19-year-old victim, studying biotechnology in Gurugram, was severely tortured by her live-in partner, sparking outrage in Tripura and other northeastern states. The incident came to light last week when the victim made a distress call to her mother, alleging that her partner, identified as Shivam, had locked her in a room and was physically abusing her for three consecutive days.
In a post on social media platform X, Chief Minister Saha stated, “Today, I spoke with Haryana’s honorable Chief Minister, Mr. Nayab Singh Saini, about the victim student from Gurugram. The honorable Chief Minister assured me that he would personally oversee this case and take all necessary steps to ensure justice for the victim. I also spoke with the victim’s mother and assured her of all possible assistance from the Tripura government. Additionally, I directed the Chief Resident Commissioner of Tripura Bhavan in Delhi to stay with the victim’s family and provide all necessary support.”
Saha also mentioned that he has contacted the office of the Union Health Minister to ensure the victim receives the best medical care.
According to the victim’s mother, the accused became acquainted with her daughter through online chatting a few months ago and promised to marry her. She alleged that prior to the incident, the accused locked her daughter in a room for three days and subjected her to inhumane torture, including forcing her to drink urine.
The accused, Shivam (19), is a resident of the Narela area in Delhi. He was arrested after an FIR was filed against him at the Badshahpur police station in Gurugram on February 19.
Describing the incident, the victim’s mother told the media and police that her daughter had called her in distress. She recounted, “She said she had no time and feared for her life. Shivam has been beating and burning me continuously for the last three days. He will kill me today.” The mother further alleged that the accused burned her daughter’s private parts with sanitizer and stabbed her multiple times. She immediately went to the Gurugram police, who rescued her daughter and admitted her to the hospital.
The victim’s mother emphasized that her daughter is a diligent student who went to Gurugram solely for her studies. She expressed her outrage over the inhumane torture that left her daughter in critical condition and demanded severe punishment for the accused.
Previously, police stated that the accused allegedly established physical relations with the woman under the pretense of marriage. The Gurugram police confirmed they are closely monitoring the case. Charges of rape and assault have been added to the FIR, and the accused has been placed in judicial custody. Further investigations are ongoing.
The police reported that the victim was initially admitted to AIIMS in Delhi and is currently receiving treatment at Safdarjung Hospital in the National Capital.
