
New Delhi, March 28: The Indian Premier League (IPL) has witnessed a total of 18 seasons so far. Out of these, only three teams have claimed 13 titles. Let’s explore the winning teams in IPL history.
Chennai Super Kings (5 Titles): This team reached the finals in the inaugural season but lost to Rajasthan Royals. However, CSK secured titles in 2010 and 2011. They reached the finals again in 2012, 2013, and 2015 but fell short. In 2018, they defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad to win their third title. They lost the final to Mumbai Indians in 2019 but bounced back to win titles in 2021 and 2023.
Mumbai Indians (5 Titles): This team reached the IPL finals in 2010 but faced defeat. Their title drought ended in 2013 when they beat Chennai Super Kings for their first championship. They claimed their second title in 2015, again defeating CSK. Mumbai Indians won their third title in 2017 against Rising Pune Supergiant and followed it up with back-to-back wins in 2019 and 2020.
Kolkata Knight Riders (3 Titles): Under Gautam Gambhir’s captaincy, KKR won titles in 2012 and 2014. However, they lost the final to Chennai Super Kings in 2021. In 2024, with Gambhir as a mentor, KKR claimed their third title by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Rajasthan Royals (1 Title): This team holds the distinction of winning the first title in IPL history. They defeated Chennai Super Kings in 2008 to secure their only trophy. In 2022, they reached the finals again but lost to Gujarat Titans.
Deccan Chargers (1 Title): The Deccan Chargers won the title in 2009, scoring 143 runs while losing six wickets. In response, Royal Challengers Bangalore managed only 137 runs, losing nine wickets.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (1 Title): This team claimed their first and only title in 2016 by defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore. They reached the finals again in 2018 but lost to Chennai Super Kings and faced defeat against KKR in 2024.
Gujarat Titans (1 Title): The Titans made history by winning the title in their debut season. In the 2022 finals, they restricted Rajasthan Royals to 130 runs and won with seven wickets remaining. They reached the finals again in 2023 but lost to Chennai Super Kings.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (1 Title): RCB reached the finals in 2009 but lost to Deccan Chargers. They faced defeat again in 2011 against Chennai Super Kings and in 2016 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, they finally secured their first title in 2025 by defeating Punjab Kings.
