Dehradun, June 7: Former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand and Congress leader Harish Rawat has criticized the state government’s policies. He raised concerns about the preparations and management of the Char Dham Yatra, stating that the government lacks clarity and does not have a coherent policy in place.
In a recent conversation, Rawat remarked, “The arrangements for the Char Dham Yatra are already in disarray. The government is unclear about which policy to adopt. Sometimes they talk about carrying capacity, while at other times they invite more pilgrims. There are discussions about online bookings, then offline bookings. Overall, there is no clear policy.”
He expressed worry about the state of the tourism industry, noting that this should be a peak time for tourism, yet the number of visitors is not meeting expectations. This shortfall is severely impacting the hotel industry.
Rawat urged the Chief Minister to announce a small relief package for hotels, including tax exemptions.
Referring to a recent fire incident in Malviya Nagar, Delhi, Rawat emphasized that the Chief Minister should take this issue seriously. He demanded a safety audit of multi-story buildings across the state to implement comprehensive measures against disasters like earthquakes and flooding, regardless of the building owner’s identity.
In response to the rising prices of LPG cylinders, Rawat criticized the BJP, stating, “This is the same BJP that opposed our mere five-rupee increase in cylinder prices.”
The Congress leader accused the state government of corruption and exploitation of traders. He stated, “Corruption has become institutionalized under BJP rule. We will bring all these issues to the public. Traders are being exploited. We will fight, raise our voices, and continue our movement.”
Rawat also mentioned the upcoming elections, asserting, “Whether the elections are in 2026 or 2027, we will bring about change. The people of the state are ready for change. The massive crowds in Almora and Pauri are proof of this desire for change.”
