New Delhi, April 14: Union Minister Kiran Rijiju has emphasized that the Women’s Reservation Bill should not be politicized. He insists it must be viewed as a historic step towards women’s empowerment. Rijiju stated that framing this issue politically would be unjust to women.
In a recent conversation, he noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged all political parties to rise above party politics and support the bill. Known as the Nari Shakti Vandan Act, the bill aims to enhance women’s representation in Parliament and state assemblies. Rijiju mentioned that this is a matter where all parties have previously shown support, and now steps are being taken towards its implementation.
He called for discussions in Parliament and urged all parties to participate collectively. According to him, if all MPs unite to pass this bill, it will send a significant message to the world about India’s commitment to women’s empowerment.
Rijiju also stated that there is nothing controversial in the bill. Whether it pertains to seat reservations, delimitation, or any other provision, every aspect has been crafted clearly and simply. He claimed that there are no points that could raise serious objections; any dissent would likely be politically motivated.
He urged all parties not to view this as a win or loss for any single party. This decision should represent the entire nation, he asserted, emphasizing that the credit for this law belongs not to one individual or party, but to the collective achievement of Parliament and all its members.
Meanwhile, on the occasion of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s 135th birth anniversary, he paid tribute to the leader. Rijiju shared that he, along with the Prime Minister and Vice President, offered floral tributes at Ambedkar’s memorial. He noted that Ambedkar’s thoughts continue to guide the nation today.
Whenever Rijiju feels confused or uncertain, he listens to Ambedkar’s speeches and reads his thoughts, which provide him with renewed energy, inspiration, and direction. He believes that Ambedkar’s ideas remain as relevant today as they were in the past, serving as a guiding light for every citizen of the country.
