24-Year-Old Married Woman Murdered in Karnataka Honor Killing

Belagavi, April 14: A shocking incident of honor killing has emerged from the Yamakanmardi police station area in Belagavi district, Karnataka. Three individuals, including the victim’s brother, have been arrested in connection with the case.

The victim has been identified as 24-year-old Satyavva Santosh Helvi, a resident of Hanbartti village in Raibag taluk. The arrested suspects include her uncle Prakash Helvara, her brother Shyanura Helvara, and her brother-in-law Morabada Kallappa.

According to police reports, Satyavva was married to Santosh Helvi but left her husband to be with her 28-year-old lover, Krishna Patil. The family initially filed a missing person’s report at the police station but later located her and allegedly plotted her murder. She was brutally killed, and in an attempt to destroy evidence, her body was burned.

This incident occurred on March 13 but has only recently come to light. Following the filing of a complaint, police were able to solve the case and apprehend the suspects.

It is noteworthy that this is not an isolated incident. In December 2025, a pregnant 19-year-old, Manya Vivekananda Doddamani, was murdered by her father and relatives for marrying a Dalit man in Dharwad district. Similarly, an 18-year-old girl named Kavita Kollura was strangled and her body burned by her family due to her inter-caste relationship. In June 2023, 17-year-old Netravati was killed by her father, brother, and uncle for her relationship with a Scheduled Caste man, with her death initially presented as a suicide.
