Gujarats Samakhyali-Bhachau Rail Section Expansion Completed, Enhancing Freight and Passenger Operations

Ahmedabad, August 20: The Western Railway’s Ahmedabad division has achieved a significant milestone in railway infrastructure development by completing the expansion of the Samakhyali-Bhachau rail section.

The newly constructed 17-kilometer rail segment is currently under inspection by senior railway officials. A team from the Commissioner of Railway Safety for the Western Circle has conducted a detailed examination of the rail section. The CRS will soon submit their report to the railway authorities, and upon approval, passenger trains and freight services will commence on this line.

E. Srinivasan, the Commissioner of Railway Safety for the Western Circle, stated that inspections have been carried out on track equipment, bridges, signaling devices, level crossing gates, and road overbridges. Additionally, they assessed the bonding of the electric power supply.

A total of 32.90 kilometers of new railway line has been developed for this crucial section, comprising 16.398 kilometers of the down line and 16.502 kilometers of the up line. The installation and linking of the new track across the entire 32.90 kilometers have been successfully completed.

During the project’s construction, 625,000 cubic meters of earthwork, 127,000 cubic meters of blanketing, and 96,000 cubic meters of ballast were laid. To accommodate heavy rail traffic, four large bridges and 25 smaller bridges were constructed. Furthermore, essential railway infrastructure has been expanded at Samakhyali, Vondh, and Bhachau stations.

The Samakhyali-Bhachau rail section is a vital route connecting the industrial areas of the Kutch region with the major rail networks of India, including the Kandla and Mundra ports. This rail section facilitates substantial freight transport to Bhuj, Gandhidham, Vayor, and surrounding areas.

Pradeep Gupta, Chief Administrative Officer (Construction) of Western Railway, mentioned that the master plan includes completing the segment from Samakhyali to Gandhidham, with a portion already finished.

DRM Ved Prakash emphasized the importance of this railway section for transporting goods from the Kandla Port, Mundra Port, and the Bhuj region to various parts of the country.

This strategic and economically significant Indian Railways project will not only strengthen rail connectivity in the Kutch region but also enhance the railway’s freight transport capacity and operational efficiency. The launch of this rail section will accelerate the transport of containers, petroleum products, fertilizers, food grains, and salt from Kandla and Mundra ports, while reducing logistics costs, thereby benefiting local industries, trade, and the export sector.
