Chaibasa, August 20: A police officer in Jharkhand, Manish Kumar, was arrested on Thursday by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) team from Jamshedpur while accepting a bribe of ₹15,000. He is accused of soliciting the bribe to remove the name of a relative from a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
According to a statement from the ACB, the case pertains to Bandgaon police case number 07/2025 related to the NDPS Act. The complaint was filed by Bijray Mundu, a resident of Karika, against Officer Manish Kumar at the ACB office in Jamshedpur. The complaint alleged that Kumar demanded a bribe of ₹20,000 to remove the name of Bijray’s elder brother, Lakho Mundu, also known as Gujuru, from the case.
Bijray Mundu did not wish to pay the bribe and subsequently reported the matter to the ACB. Following verification of the complaint, the ACB confirmed the demand for a bribe by the officer. Consequently, a case was registered on August 19, 2026, under section 7(A) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
On Thursday, the ACB set a trap as part of a pre-planned operation. As soon as the complainant handed over the ₹15,000 to Officer Kumar, ACB officials present at the scene apprehended him. The bribe amount was recovered from him.
After the arrest, the ACB team took the accused officer to Jamshedpur, where necessary legal procedures are being completed. He will be presented in court. The arrest has caused a stir within the police department. ACB officials stated that their efforts against corruption will continue.
