India and Nigeria Strengthen Naval Cooperation through Strategic Talks

New Delhi, August 20: India and Nigeria have engaged in significant naval discussions aimed at enhancing their maritime cooperation. This marks the third meeting of the India-Nigeria Navy Sub-Group, which took place from August 18 to August 20 in New Delhi. The talks reviewed the progress of bilateral naval cooperation and explored new areas for future collaboration.

During the meeting, both parties assessed the advancements made in their bilateral naval ties. They also deliberated on new opportunities to broaden and enhance cooperation between their navies. Key topics included training, maritime security, and operational collaboration.

Both sides emphasized that regular dialogue, training, and operational cooperation could strengthen mutual understanding and professional synergy between the two navies. Maritime security was highlighted as one of the critical areas for collaboration. Discussions also focused on advancing cooperation to ensure a safe and stable maritime environment in the Indian Ocean region and beyond.

The two nations reiterated their shared commitment to a secure, protected, and inclusive maritime domain. This collaboration will play a crucial role in promoting shared interests in maritime security and strengthening institutional ties between their navies.

Naval cooperation is a vital aspect of defense relations between India and Nigeria. Institutional mechanisms for naval dialogue and collaboration have already been established between the two countries. This naval dialogue occurs at a time when India is actively enhancing maritime security and defense cooperation with African nations.

As a result of the meeting, pathways have been paved for advancing India-Nigeria naval relations in the areas of training, maritime security, and operational cooperation. The meeting was co-chaired by Rear Admiral Sachin R. Sekera, the Deputy Chief of Naval Staff of the Indian Navy, and Rear Admiral Anthony Victor Kujo, the Deputy Commandant of Nigeria’s Armed Forces Command and Staff College.
