Ahmedabad, June 1: The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have emerged victorious in the IPL 2026 final. On Sunday, RCB defeated the Gujarat Titans (GT) by five wickets, securing their second consecutive title. GT captain Shubman Gill faced disappointment in his quest for his first IPL title as captain and to bring home a second title for GT.
After the match, Gill stated, “If we had scored around 180-190, it would have been a good contest. The fast bowlers got some assistance in the first three to four overs, and after losing a few early wickets, we lost our momentum. We conceded 15-20 runs too many during the powerplay. I believe we were one of the best bowling teams in this tournament. After losing a few initial matches, we made a strong comeback. I’m very happy. Although we didn’t reach the winning destination, there’s always room for improvement, even if we had won the trophy.”
While Gill struggled in the final, scoring just 10 runs, he had an impressive tournament overall. He finished with 732 runs in 16 innings, placing second behind Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Gill had previously led GT to the final with a century against the Rajasthan Royals in the second qualifier.
This was GT’s third final appearance, having won the title in 2022.
In the IPL 2026 final, after losing the toss and batting first, GT managed to score 155 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. RCB chased down the target, thanks to Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 75 runs, finishing at 161 runs for 5 wickets in 18 overs to claim the IPL 2026 trophy.
