Gandhinagar, August 6: The Gujarat government has made a significant decision regarding the production, storage, transportation, distribution, and sale of non-standard analog cheese, butter, and other dairy products. A complete ban has been imposed on such products under the Food Safety and Standards Act of 2006.
This action follows extensive sampling and laboratory testing conducted by the state’s Food and Drug Control Administration (FDCA). Investigations revealed that several non-dairy products, which included vegetable oils and other non-dairy materials, were being marketed as genuine cheese and dairy products.
According to the government, these misleading practices not only deceive consumers but also pose a serious threat to food safety. Furthermore, they harm farmers and the dairy industry that produce authentic dairy products. Gujarat is one of the leading milk-producing states in the country, and protecting the interests of the dairy sector has been a key reason for this decision.
The state government has made it clear that strict legal action will be taken against any individual or food business operator who violates the ban. Relevant departments have been instructed to enhance monitoring and ensure strict compliance with the regulations.
The government has urged product manufacturers, traders, hotels, restaurants, and catering services to use only genuine and standard quality dairy products and serve them to customers.
Officials have stated that a zero-tolerance policy will be adopted against misleading and fake food products. The aim of this initiative is to protect consumer health, maintain public trust in dairy products, and ensure the availability of safe and quality food in the state.
Gujarat’s Health Minister, Prabhul Panseriya, shared on the social media platform X that a meeting was held with health department officials regarding strict actions against the production and sale of non-standard food items like analog cheese, butter, and others.
He emphasized that the Gujarat government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against non-standard food products, keeping in mind the safety of citizens’ health and consumer interests. Strict legal actions will be taken against food items misleadingly sold as genuine dairy products.
During a media interaction, he clarified that the production, storage, transportation, distribution, and sale of analog cheese, butter, and similar products have been banned throughout the state.
