Gandhinagar, September 3: The Gujarat government has adopted a stringent ‘zero-tolerance’ policy against counterfeit and illegal medicines. In a significant move, licenses of 50 pharmaceutical companies have been revoked as part of the crackdown on substandard drugs, food adulteration, and illegal drug networks.
Health Minister Prabhull Panseriya addressed the media in Gandhinagar, stating that the campaign is being conducted under the clear directives of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.
He emphasized, “Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has instructed us to take strict action against those involved in adulteration of medicines and food products under the zero-tolerance policy. A meeting was held yesterday, and the Food Department along with our Drugs Department is conducting raids across Gujarat.”
During these raids, counterfeit and adulterated medicines, cough syrups, and other products have been discovered at several locations. Many factories and pharmaceutical companies involved in these malpractices have been sealed, and their licenses suspended.
Panseriya noted, “For the past four months, a campaign has been underway in Gujarat. The public response has been positive, and everyone is cooperating. We have taken strict action against those providing contaminated food in restaurants and manufacturers of fake medicines, apprehending the culprits.”
He also highlighted the efforts of Ahmedabad police, stating that officials from the Drugs Department collaborated with the Crime Branch to conduct raids across three states, leading to the arrest of suspects.
The Health Minister warned, “I hope that no one in Gujarat will engage in any form of adulteration; otherwise, they will face punishment. Our police and the Drugs Department will take strict action against them.”
The government has assured that this campaign will continue, and those who jeopardize public health will not be spared at any cost.
