Greece and India Strengthen Defense Ties with New Agreement

New Delhi, February 10: Greek Defense Minister Nikolaos Georgios Dendias is on an official visit to India. In New Delhi, he engaged in bilateral talks with Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday.

During their discussions, both defense ministers signed a Joint Declaration of Intent. This agreement will serve as a roadmap for the next five years, enhancing defense industrial cooperation between the two nations. The leaders emphasized that the strategic partnership between India and Greece is grounded in shared values such as peace, stability, freedom, and mutual respect.

According to the Ministry of Defense, the meeting established a framework for strengthening both countries’ indigenous defense industries by integrating India’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative with Greece’s ‘Agenda 2030’ defense reform plan. The signing of the Joint Declaration of Intent aims to bolster defense industrial collaboration between India and Greece.

The ministers also discussed regional peace and security issues, noting that defense cooperation and strategic relations between the two countries are deepening. They exchanged plans for bilateral military cooperation for 2026, outlining future activities between their armed forces. A mutual understanding on maritime matters was also evident between the two ancient maritime nations.

Greece announced that it will deploy an international liaison officer at the Information Fusion Centre – Indian Ocean Region in Gurugram. Prior to this, the Greek Defense Minister paid tribute to fallen soldiers at the National War Memorial and inspected a tri-service Guard of Honor at the Manekshaw Centre.

During his visit, the Greek delegation toured key defense and industrial institutions in Bengaluru and New Delhi. They engaged in discussions with representatives from defense PSUs, the defense industry, and startups.

The Ministry of Defense believes this visit reaffirms the long-standing strong and friendly relations between India and Greece. Meanwhile, Minister of State for Defense Sanjay Seth inaugurated the India Pavilion at the World Defense Show 2026 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Spanning approximately 400 square meters, the pavilion showcases India’s indigenous defense capabilities, defense PSUs, and cutting-edge platforms, reflecting the ‘Make in India, Make for the World’ initiative.
