Kolkata, May 11: A grand ‘Fish Festival’ was held in Kolkata on Sunday, celebrating the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) historic victory and the formation of a new government in West Bengal. Minister Dilip Ghosh attended the event organized by the BJP’s OBC Morcha, marking this significant occasion.
During a media interaction, Ghosh targeted former Chief Minister and TMC leader Mamata Banerjee. He was accompanied by BJP MLA Tapas Ray, and the event saw a large turnout of local residents, fish traders, aquaculture business owners, and BJP workers.
Ghosh stated that Banerjee had spread falsehoods about the BJP’s intentions, claiming that the party would ban fish consumption in Bengal. He emphasized that the fish identity of Bengal is paramount, and the festival was a testament to this cultural significance.
He criticized Banerjee’s government for hindering the fish trade in the state. With the BJP now in power, Ghosh promised to prioritize aquaculture in Bengal. He pointed out that fish production in the state is low, necessitating imports from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh. He questioned why the people of Bengal, who enjoy fish and rice, are not able to produce enough locally.
Ghosh assured that the BJP would ensure that the people of Bengal have access to fish and rice. He also mentioned that entrepreneurs are eager to invest in the state, and his government aims to create a conducive environment for industries, providing ample opportunities for everyone.
