New Delhi, September 7 (Daily Kiran) : Rescue operations are underway in Satya Niketan, New Delhi, following a tragic building collapse that occurred on Sunday. The incident has significantly disrupted traffic in the area, prompting the Delhi traffic police to issue an advisory for commuters.
In a post on social media platform X, authorities informed the public that emergency teams are actively working at the site of the collapse, which has affected major routes around the Satya Niketan Market and South Campus.
Traffic flow has been notably impacted on roads leading from Safdarjung Hospital to Dhaula Kuan, as well as on RTR and Benito Juarez Marg. Police are advising the public to avoid these routes if possible and to adhere to the instructions of traffic personnel. They also urged drivers not to stop or park near the incident site to ensure that ambulances and rescue vehicles can operate without obstruction.
The building, reported to be 40 to 50 years old, collapsed during renovation work in its basement. So far, six fatalities have been confirmed, with ten others injured, including students and laborers. The injured are receiving treatment at AIIMS. Rescue teams are concerned that an estimated 15 to 20 people may still be trapped under the debris, and efforts to locate and rescue them are ongoing.
In response to the incident, police have registered an FIR against the building’s owner, Hariram Bansal, and others involved. The investigation is expected to delve into the building’s safety standards and the circumstances leading to the collapse.
