New Delhi, September 7 (Daily Kiran) : In New Delhi, search and rescue operations are underway following the collapse of a multi-story building in the Satya Niketan area. On Monday morning, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta visited the site to assess the situation. Accompanying her were Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar, and Mayor Pravesh Wahi.
During her visit, Chief Minister Gupta reviewed the conditions and received updates from officials. Minister Sirsa stated, “Accountability will be established. The Chief Minister made it clear yesterday that action will be taken against those responsible, and no one will be spared.”
Sirsa addressed reporters, emphasizing that the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is actively engaged in rescue operations. He noted the challenging circumstances posed by a neighboring building, which is also around 40-50 years old and in poor condition. Temporary columns are being installed to stabilize the structure while rescue efforts continue.
The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon when a five-story building, housing a boys’ hostel, collapsed in a narrow lane of Satya Niketan. This building was approximately 50 years old. The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has officially confirmed six fatalities related to the incident.
A statement revealed that 11 injured individuals were transported to the JPNA Apex Trauma Centre at AIIMS. Among them, five were brought in dead, and one later succumbed to injuries. Three patients are currently hospitalized, with one undergoing surgery for a serious injury, while another suffered minor injuries and was discharged after observation.
Additionally, the Delhi Police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against the building’s owner and others at the South Campus police station in connection with the collapse.
