Grand Bhasma Aarti Celebrated at Mahakal Temple in Ujjain

Ujjain, May 19: The world-renowned Jyotirlinga Baba Mahakaleshwar witnessed a magnificent Bhasma Aarti early Tuesday morning as the temple doors opened. Devotees from across the country and abroad queued up late into the night to catch a glimpse of Baba Mahakal and partake in the divine experience.

In accordance with daily tradition, the temple doors were opened after seeking permission from Lord Veerabhadra, followed by resounding chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal” throughout the premises. Devotees from various corners of the nation participated in the Bhasma Aarti, receiving blessings from Baba Mahakal. The entire temple complex resonated with the sounds of bells, conch shells, and chanting, creating an atmosphere filled with devotion and faith.

Following this, the Mahanirvani Akhara performed the first water abhishekam of Baba, followed by a ceremonial bath with Panchamrit. After the abhishekam, a grand Bhasma Aarti took place, where sacred ash was offered to Baba, and the Aarti was performed. During this time, Mahakal is believed to reveal his divine form to his devotees.

The special worship began early Tuesday with the water abhishekam of Mahakal. This was succeeded by an abhishekam using Panchamrit, made from milk, yogurt, ghee, honey, and sugar. After the abhishekam, Baba Mahakal was adorned with a stunning and divine decoration, featuring a special tripund of sandalwood and a moon on his forehead, along with a fresh bel leaf garland. The sanctum reverberated with chants of “Jai Mahakal” upon witnessing this extraordinary form.

After the decoration, in line with temple tradition, the Mahanirvani Akhara offered Bhasma to Baba Mahakal. As the Bhasma was presented, Baba’s form appeared even more enchanting. Following this, special delicacies were offered to the deity, culminating in the performance of the Karpur Aarti and the Maha Aarti. The sounds of the damru, conch, and bells during the Aarti filled the atmosphere with a divine and devotional spirit.
