Kathmandu, September 3 (Daily Kiran) : In Kathmandu, families are still searching for their missing loved ones a week after a devastating disaster struck Nepal. Amarpreet Singh, founder and CEO of Global Sikh, announced that his team has initiated helicopter search operations to locate those unaccounted for. While obtaining permissions and resources has proven challenging, the team is determined to reach remote areas that remain inaccessible.
Singh emphasized that all team members possess between 10 to 15 years of experience in disaster management. When news of the disaster broke, a team was already managing emergency relief efforts, including operating community kitchens, distributing blankets and mattresses, and providing essential supplies at relief camps. However, he noted that many families are still facing significant difficulties.
“Several families approach us, expressing concern for their loved ones trapped in the affected areas,” Singh said. “To assist in locating them, we hired a helicopter yesterday, conducted a survey, landed at one site, and assessed the situation. Today, we received permission to hire a helicopter again to identify missing family members. It has been seven or eight days since the disaster, and we have prepared all necessary equipment. Our plan is to stay in the area for one or two nights; our team will land near a tunnel, as we have secured all required permissions.”
Singh added that while they cannot predict the outcome, they are committed to reaching places where others have not been able to go. “Securing permissions is a significant challenge, as is hiring the helicopter. We pray for our team’s selfless efforts to successfully reunite families with their missing members. This is a time of great sorrow. My message is that many individuals and organizations are working on the ground. This is not a short-term relief effort; we need to plan for the long haul, whether it takes one year or two.”
He further explained that they are preparing nutritious meals and have a team dedicated to emergency relief. Their goal is to gather resources and reach areas in dire need until rescue operations are complete. “Now, seven days have passed, and from here in the city, we are appealing for the identification of family members or at least the recovery of remains. We are doing everything we can.”
