Andhra Pradesh Issues Alert for Ebola Virus Amid Rising Cases in Africa

Amaravati, May 25: The Andhra Pradesh government has issued an alert in response to the increasing cases of the Ebola virus in several African countries. Health officials in the state have commenced screening travelers arriving from Ebola-affected regions.

State Medical and Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav announced that precautionary measures have been implemented due to the widespread transmission of the Ebola virus, rising case numbers, and increasing mortality rates in various African nations.

He expressed particular concern over the rapid spread of the virus in countries such as the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, and South Sudan.

Based on warnings from the World Health Organization and specific guidelines received from the central government, the minister stated that the Medical and Health Department is fully prepared to effectively prevent the spread of the Ebola virus and manage potential cases.

Yadav noted that the outbreak in Congo and Uganda is becoming increasingly severe. In light of this situation, measures are being taken to ensure close coordination between airport authorities and health officials in relevant districts.

This coordination aims to facilitate the screening and diagnostic checks for travelers and tourists arriving in the state from Congo, Uganda, and Sudan via the international airports in Visakhapatnam, Tirupati, and Vijayawada.

The minister emphasized that individuals displaying symptoms of the virus will be promptly quarantined, and immediate medical checks will be conducted for those who have been in contact with them.

Additionally, discussions have been held with officials at the Visakhapatnam port, and the district administration has been instructed to implement necessary precautionary measures. He mentioned that measures will be enforced not only for air travelers but also for individuals arriving by road.

The central government is closely monitoring the details of travelers entering the country from Ebola-affected nations and is providing relevant information to the respective states accordingly.

Referencing experiences gained during the COVID-19 pandemic, he indicated that a work plan is being developed to outline precautionary measures and steps to be taken in the event of an Ebola-related emergency.
