From Assistant Director to Successful Producer: Atul Agnihotris Unique Journey in Bollywood

Mumbai, June 23: Atul Agnihotri stepped into the entertainment industry inspired by his father, Rohit Agnihotri, and his cousin, actress Rati Agnihotri. He began his career as an assistant director alongside Pankaj Parashar.

His major breakthrough came in 1993 with Mahesh Bhatt’s critically acclaimed film ‘Sir.’ Shortly after, in 1994, he portrayed a dedicated police officer named ‘Avi’ in Sanjay Gupta’s ‘Aatish,’ which earned him recognition among audiences. That same year, ‘Kranti Veer’ set new box office records. He continued to work in films like ‘Naraaz’ (1994), ‘Yashwant’ (1997), and ‘Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam’ (2002).

Born on June 24, 1970, in Delhi, Atul’s life took a beautiful turn when he met Alvira Khan, sister of Salman Khan, on the set of a paint advertisement. Their relationship deepened on the set of the film ‘Jagruti’ (1992), leading to their marriage.

Atul Agnihotri has two children. His son, Ayaan Agnihotri, is a musician, while his daughter, Alizeh Agnihotri, is a model and Bollywood actress. After directing ‘Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha’ (2004) and ‘Hello’ (2008), Atul realized his true strength lay in film production. He subsequently founded ‘Reel Life Productions.’

In 2011, he produced the film ‘Bodyguard,’ starring Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor, which was a massive box office success. Atul received the ‘Most Successful Producer’ award in 2012. His production skills were further recognized with the drama film ‘Bharat’ (2019), which grossed approximately ₹197.34 crores.

Towards the end of 2025 and the beginning of 2026, Atul is redeveloping the 60-year-old ‘Palimala Cooperative Housing Society’ in Bandra West through his company, ‘Shivasaai Homemaker Infra LLP.’ The company paid ₹1.08 crores in stamp duty for this premium project in December 2025.

Reports suggest that Atul Agnihotri is preparing to start filming a mega-budget superhero movie directed by Raj and DK in October-November 2026, featuring Salman Khan in a unique role as a retired superhero.
