Mumbai, August 25: Taapsee Pannu’s upcoming film ‘Gandhari’ is generating buzz ahead of its release. The trailer has already been unveiled. In this film, Taapsee portrays a mother whose daughter is kidnapped. She is prepared to face any danger to bring her daughter back.
During the trailer launch, Taapsee discussed her preparation for the role, the challenges of acting without sight, and the action sequences. She also expressed her annoyance regarding the ongoing controversy with Kangana Ranaut.
Taapsee stated, “The character in the film has been intricately written by the writer Kanika Dhillon. I didn’t have to create much on my own to understand the character, as the emotions were clearly laid out in the story. My task was to portray the character accurately on screen. In the story, my character loses her eyesight, so I underwent special training to understand how to move without sight, how my body should react, and how to respond when feeling something. This experience was unique for me, as I had to convey my character’s blindness through every small movement of my body instead of dialogue.”
Regarding the action scenes, Taapsee mentioned, “I have worked in action films before, so I have an idea of the preparation involved. An actor must stay physically and mentally ready to minimize the risk of injury. However, the action in ‘Gandhari’ is different from my previous work because it is intertwined with a mother’s emotions.”
She added, “The action of my character is not driven by a desire for revenge. She is fighting to save her daughter. Therefore, when she confronts someone, her anxiety to get her child back outweighs her anger. If anyone stands in her way, she will not back down.”
The trailer begins with a heartwarming relationship between Taapsee and her daughter Mishti. In one scene, Taapsee is seen playing hide-and-seek with her daughter while blindfolded. The story takes a sudden turn when Mishti goes missing during a train journey, prompting a desperate search by her mother.
Despite extensive searches yielding no clues, Taapsee’s character takes it upon herself to find her daughter. The plot thickens as it is revealed that not only Mishti but several other girls from the area have also disappeared. Taapsee’s character is trained by Chhaya Kadam, and she embarks on her quest to find her daughter while blindfolded.
The trailer also references Gandhari from the Mahabharata, drawing a parallel between how Gandhari blindfolded herself for her husband and how a mother would do the same for her daughter. The narrative unfolds in the mysterious world of Joypura, where a chilling truth about disappearing girls and impersonators emerges.
When questioned about the ongoing dispute with Kangana Ranaut during the trailer launch, Taapsee expressed her frustration. She remarked, “When will the media stop asking this question? If you genuinely want to avoid controversy between us, you should stop asking such questions. Perhaps the media enjoys these questions, which is why they keep coming up.”
It is noteworthy that Kangana recently referred to Taapsee as a “cheap copy” without mentioning her name. In response, Taapsee subtly addressed the comment on social media, stating, “Hence proved.”
