
Angul, June 18: In a significant development in the Angul robbery case in Odisha, police have arrested four suspects following a shootout. Two of the accused sustained injuries during the encounter and are currently receiving treatment in a hospital. The suspects were involved in a gold and silver heist that occurred in the Talcher police jurisdiction the previous day.
According to reports, the encounter took place near the Chuliyapur forest area in the Handapa police region. When police attempted to stop a suspicious vehicle, the criminals opened fire. In response, the police returned fire, injuring two suspects who were later apprehended.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Sachin Mahadev Gejke and Prakash Madane from Maharashtra. Sachin was shot in the right leg, while Prakash was hit in the left leg. They were admitted to the Angul District Headquarters Hospital but were later transferred to Cuttack Medical College due to their serious conditions.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Rahul Jain reported that the robbery occurred around 6 PM at the Shri Balaji Gold Refinery in the Talcher area. The suspects made off with approximately 300 grams of gold and various silver ornaments, and they also took one person hostage during the incident.
SP Jain noted that the assailants arrived in a car. Following the robbery, Angul police issued alerts to all police stations and established checkpoints throughout the district. During the operation to locate and apprehend the suspects, the police encountered resistance, leading to the shootout that resulted in injuries to two of the suspects.
SP Rahul Jain confirmed that a total of four suspects have been arrested, and stolen items have been recovered. The vehicle used in the crime has also been seized. He mentioned that the arrested individuals are from Maharashtra, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend additional suspects involved in the case.
