New Delhi, June 10: Former Indian President Venkiah Naidu has penned an article praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his historic tenure, which has surpassed that of Jawaharlal Nehru. Naidu describes Modi’s journey as a unique narrative.
In his writing, Naidu notes, “Independent India has seen 15 Prime Ministers from Nehru to Modi. Each has served the nation under varying socio-political and economic conditions, facing numerous challenges. The current Prime Minister’s story is exceptional.”
Modi has set a record as the longest-serving elected Prime Minister, with 4,399 consecutive days in office. He still has three years left in his term. This achievement is particularly significant given the intense political competition, coalition politics, and the constant scrutiny of 24-hour media and social discussions. Born into a humble family, Modi started his career selling tea in Vadnagar, Gujarat, and has risen to the Prime Minister’s Office in South Block, a remarkable accomplishment.
Naidu elaborates, “Modi’s journey has been one of self-discovery, understanding the people and their issues, and envisioning the future of the country as ‘Golden India.’ His early association with the RSS profoundly influenced his outlook. Throughout his life, he has quietly fulfilled various responsibilities assigned by the RSS, Janata Party, and BJP, developing immense organizational skills and the courage to dream of India’s future.”
At the age of 51, Modi became the Chief Minister of Gujarat. From day one, he showcased his capabilities, channeling the entrepreneurial spirit and energy of the people of Gujarat. His uninterrupted 13-year tenure as Chief Minister was pivotal, with the Gujarat model capturing the imagination of the nation. The public sought a leader who could deliver results, and they found that in Modi. He led the NDA to victory in the 2014 general elections, marking the first time the BJP achieved a majority.
Naidu also commended Modi for his accomplishments over the past 12 years. He highlighted the construction of over 12 crore toilets under the ‘Swachh Bharat’ initiative, the creation of more than 4 crore homes for the poor, and the opening of over 57 crore bank accounts. Through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), beneficiaries received ₹45 lakh crore, and over 10 crore women were provided with LPG connections, alleviating smoke exposure in kitchens. The UPI system has facilitated over ₹24,000 crore in digital transactions, establishing India as a global leader in real-time digital payments. During the COVID-19 pandemic, food assistance was provided to 80 crore people, a support system that continues.
Naidu emphasized Modi’s commitment to expanding education and healthcare institutions, significantly enhancing human resource development. The number of IITs, IIMs, and other institutions has increased manifold. The Ayushman Bharat scheme is the world’s largest government-funded health program. Modi does not adhere to outdated thinking or practices. He has taken bold steps, such as abrogating Article 370, abolishing triple talaq, and implementing GST reforms despite significant opposition. His impact on internal and national security is profound, with left-wing extremism nearly eradicated. Surgical strikes and Operation Sindhur have taught a stern lesson to those with hostile intentions. Modi’s foreign policy is equally decisive, prioritizing national interests over any specific country, ensuring India’s voice is significant in global discussions.
Naidu concluded by stating, “After these 12 years, I have no hesitation in naming PM Modi the ‘Man of Destiny for India.’ His vision is the destiny of a Golden India. The future of India is secure in his hands. I wish Narendra Modi all the best for his endeavors.”
