New Delhi, June 14: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced on Sunday that the Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway project will significantly improve connectivity to key industrial and logistics hubs, boosting economic activities and infrastructure development in the region.
During her visit to the expressway corridor as part of the ‘Pragati Path Yatra Darshan’ program in Devanahalli, Karnataka, Sitharaman highlighted that this greenfield project is a crucial infrastructure initiative under the ‘Bharatmala Project Phase-1’. Its goal is to provide fast and uninterrupted connectivity between two of India’s major economic and industrial centers—Bengaluru and Chennai.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, the Finance Minister stated, “This project enhances connectivity to significant industrial and logistics hubs such as Hosakote, Malur, Bangarpet, Narsapura Industrial Area, and the Aerospace and Defense Park. Additionally, it facilitates access to the proposed Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) in Dobbaspet through the Bengaluru Ring Road network.”
Sitharaman visited the expressway site with Karnataka BJP leaders, emphasizing the NDA government’s focus on creating modern infrastructure to accelerate economic development and improve citizens’ lives.
According to the Finance Minister, the Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway is one of the flagship projects of the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and is recognized as a priority corridor under the Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC).
The project begins at Hosakote, near the junction of National Highway-4 and National Highway-207, and is expected to strengthen connectivity between major industrial clusters in Karnataka and the neighboring state of Tamil Nadu.
The Karnataka section of the expressway spans approximately 71 kilometers and is divided into three packages: Hosakote-Malur (26.4 kilometers), Malur-Bangarpet (27.1 kilometers), and Bangarpet-Bethamangala (17.5 kilometers).
Sitharaman stated that projects like the Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway reflect the government’s commitment to developing world-class transport infrastructure, which will enhance industrial development, logistics capacity, and regional economic integration.
