Former Army Chief Naravane Addresses Book Controversy with Publishers Statement

New Delhi, February 10: The controversy surrounding the unpublished book of former Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane continues to create a stir in Parliament. On Tuesday, the former chief put an end to the ongoing debate by reposting an official statement from the book’s publisher, Penguin Random House India, on the social media platform X. He captioned the post with, “This is the current status of the book.”

Previously, Penguin released its official statement via a post on X, clarifying, “In light of the recent public discussions and media reports regarding the book, Penguin Random House India wants to make it clear that we hold the sole rights to publish the autobiography ‘Four Stars of Destiny’ by former Indian Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane. We wish to clarify that the book has not been published. No copies of the book, in print or digital form, have been published, distributed, sold, or made available to the public by Penguin Random House India.”

The publishing house emphasized that if any copies of the book, whether complete or partial, in print, digital, PDF, or any other format, are circulating online or offline on any platform, it constitutes a violation of PRHI’s copyright and must cease immediately.

Additionally, the publisher issued a stern warning, stating, “Penguin Random House India will take legal action against the illegal and unauthorized dissemination of this book.”

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Rahul Gandhi once again criticized the government and the publisher, Penguin. He claimed that the memoirs are in the public domain and accused the BJP of attempting to suppress “inconvenient truths.”

After the Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned on Tuesday, the Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, spoke to the media, alleging that the book is available on the e-commerce platform Amazon, a claim that Penguin has outright denied.

He also showed journalists a post from a former Army Chief made in 2023, urging people to read memoirs detailing the events of the Galwan clash in 2020.
