Chennai, July 2: Former ministers of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), Dr. C. Vijay and M.R. Vijay, are set to join the ruling Tamilga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) on Thursday, accompanied by approximately 15,000 supporters and party officials.
This event marks the largest political development since the party came to power. The joining ceremony will take place at a hotel in Mallapuram, near Chennai. Senior TVK ministers N. Anand and Adhava Arjun will formally welcome the leaders and their supporters into the party.
Several prominent former AIADMK leaders are expected to attend the event, including former ministers S. Valarmathi from Tiruchirappalli, M.S.M. Anandan from Tiruppur, and former legislators Manraj (Srivilliputhur), M. Ramkumar (Kumbakonam), Rajavarman (Tiruchirappalli), Sathyan Prabhakar (Paramakudi), and Tirugyanasambandham (Peravurani).
District-level leaders from TVK will also be present, including P.K. Vairamuthu (Pudukkottai), Ilambai Tamilselvan (Perambalur), Orathanadu M. Sekar (Thanjavur), and Srinivasan (Tiruchirappalli), along with 208 former union secretaries from AIADMK.
According to organizers, nearly 15,000 party officials and supporters have arrived at the venue from various parts of Tamil Nadu. Reports indicate they traveled in around 200 buses and over 600 cars, showcasing the scale of this political shift.
In a joint statement released prior to their joining, Dr. C. Vijay and M.R. Vijay expressed their loyalty to AIADMK throughout their political careers, standing by the party even during its most challenging times.
The leaders mentioned that they had urged AIADMK’s General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami to form an electoral alliance with TVK ahead of the assembly elections, but their suggestion was overlooked. They further claimed that Palaniswami attempted to become Chief Minister with support from the DMK instead. They described any agreement between AIADMK and DMK as “unnatural” and contrary to the principles on which the party was founded by M.G. Ramachandran.
Expressing their disappointment with the party leadership, the former legislators stated that they made the heartbreaking decision to leave AIADMK “with tears in their eyes.” They are joining TVK with the belief that it offers a new political direction and an opportunity to continue serving the people of Tamil Nadu.
