Five Arrested in Bengaluru for Attack on Migrant Woman Worker

Bengaluru, April 6: Bengaluru police arrested five individuals on Monday in connection with an attack on a 20-year-old woman and her male friend at a residence in the Laborers Colony on Balagere Road, near the Varthur police station.

A video of the incident has gone viral on social media.

Based on the victim’s complaint, police have filed an FIR against the accused under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 118(1) (causing injury with dangerous weapons), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), 74 (assault with intent to insult a woman’s dignity), 352 (deliberate insult to provoke a breach of peace), 3(5) (committing an offense with a shared criminal objective), and 78(2) (stalking).

The investigation is ongoing, with police working to identify and apprehend additional suspects involved in the case. More information is expected to emerge.

According to the FIR, the incident occurred around 10:30 PM on April 3, when a group of men allegedly armed with wooden sticks and rods entered the victim’s shed. The attackers have been identified as migrant workers Jamshed, Tukhon, Bapun, Noor, and others, who assaulted both the woman and her friend, resulting in injuries.

The assailants reportedly accused the man of having an illicit relationship with the woman.

The victim informed police that she works during the day and has been harassed by the accused for several days. She alleged that the men followed her, made lewd comments, and asked for her phone number, which she refused to provide.

On the night of the incident, the victim had just returned home from work when an acquaintance came to deliver drinking water, a regular service for residents in the area.

At that moment, the accused allegedly entered the premises and attacked both individuals.

Police suspect that the assault may have occurred after the woman confronted the accused about their harassing behavior.

The victim sustained injuries to her right arm, waist, and head. She also reported that during the attack, the assailants threatened to kill her and warned her not to continue living in Bengaluru.
