Evian, June 16: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and U.S. President Donald Trump met on Tuesday in Evian, France, ahead of an outreach session at the G7 Summit. The two leaders greeted each other warmly, shaking hands before engaging in brief discussions.
The session focuses on “Building New Partnerships and Strengthening International Solidarity,” with participation from G7 nations, partner countries, the World Bank, and the African Development Bank.
On Wednesday, Modi and Trump will hold a bilateral meeting to discuss crucial topics such as economic development, supply chains, artificial intelligence (AI), investment partnerships, and global security. This meeting marks their first bilateral discussion since last year’s successful “Operation Sindoor” against Pakistan.
The White House confirmed that this meeting will occur before a working lunch involving G7 leaders, outreach partners, and technology company officials.
Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron warmly welcomed Modi upon his arrival at the G7 Summit. The two leaders embraced and exchanged greetings in the presence of President Trump and other G7 leaders.
After arriving in Evian, Modi expressed excitement about meeting world leaders and sharing insights on significant global issues. He wrote on the social media platform X, “I have arrived in Evian, France, for the G7 Summit. I am eager to engage with world leaders and share thoughts on critical global issues. India is committed to working together for a more sustainable and prosperous world.”
India has been invited as a partner country to the 52nd G7 Summit, taking place from June 15 to 17. During this conference, Modi will discuss important issues related to India and the Global South (developing countries) with world leaders.
This marks India’s 13th participation in the G7 Summit and Modi’s seventh consecutive attendance. Outreach sessions are scheduled for June 16 and 17, where Modi will engage with leaders from other invited nations. According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), these meetings will primarily address strengthening international partnerships, enhancing cooperation for development, balanced economic growth, and effectively advancing artificial intelligence.
The MEA stated that India’s ongoing participation in the G7 Summit underscores the growing recognition of India’s role and contribution in addressing global issues like peace, security, development, and the environment.
India has consistently highlighted the priorities, concerns, and developmental aspirations of developing countries on international platforms such as the G20 and the “Voice of the Global South Summit.”
