
Geneva, June 16: French President Emmanuel Macron warmly welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Évian on Tuesday. Prime Minister Modi is in Évian to attend the G7 Summit. Upon arrival, Modi and Macron embraced and exchanged well wishes. The two leaders met ahead of an outreach session that includes U.S. President Donald Trump and other G7 leaders.
After reaching Évian, Prime Minister Modi expressed his excitement about meeting world leaders and sharing insights on critical global issues. He also thanked President Macron for the warm welcome.
On the social media platform ‘X’, he wrote, “Thank you, my friend President Macron, for the warm welcome in Évian.”
He added, “I have arrived in Évian, France, to participate in the G7 Summit. I look forward to engaging with world leaders and exchanging views on significant global issues. India is committed to advancing efforts for a more sustainable and prosperous world.”
Prime Minister Modi is in Évian at the invitation of President Macron. This marks India’s 13th participation in the G7 Summit, with Modi attending for the seventh consecutive time.
Earlier, Prime Minister Modi arrived in Geneva, where he was welcomed at the airport by Swiss President Guy Parmelin.
According to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, PM Modi and Parmelin had a warm meeting, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening India-Switzerland relations.
Jaiswal posted on ‘X’, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Geneva to attend the G7 Summit. He was welcomed by Swiss President Guy Parmelin. Both leaders had a warm meeting and reiterated their commitment to strengthening the India-Switzerland partnership.”
During the summit, Prime Minister Modi will discuss various issues with leaders from G7 countries, invited nations, and representatives from international organizations. Topics will include enhancing new collaborations, strengthening international solidarity, promoting balanced and sustainable economic growth, and implementing artificial intelligence (AI) safely and effectively.
Prime Minister Modi will also hold separate bilateral meetings with leaders from several countries during the summit.
Foreign Ministry Secretary (West) Siby George stated that India’s continuous participation in G7 meetings demonstrates the world’s growing recognition of India’s role and contributions. India has consistently voiced its stance on global issues such as peace, security, development, and the environment.
He noted that India has raised the concerns and needs of developing countries at the G7, similar to platforms like the G20 and the ‘Voice of the Global South Summit’.
He mentioned that this year’s G7 Summit, under France’s presidency, prioritizes several key issues, including reducing economic imbalances, promoting development for all, strengthening critical minerals and supply chains, ensuring children’s online safety, addressing major geopolitical crises, and tackling organized crime and illegal activities.
After concluding the events in Évian, Prime Minister Modi will travel to Paris on Thursday. There, he will participate in bilateral meetings and attend Europe’s largest technology and startup event, ‘VivaTech’. According to the Foreign Ministry, Prime Minister Modi may also address the Indian community in Paris.
