Fire Control Cell Activated in Lucknow to Prevent Forest Fires

Lucknow, March 14: With changing weather patterns, the Forest Department has completed its preparations for fire prevention. The Chief Minister has instructed senior officials to ensure that there are no forest fires during the summer months. To monitor and prevent such incidents, control rooms have been established from the headquarters to divisional and zonal levels. The fire control cell at the state headquarters is already operational.

A total of 116 fire control cells have been set up across the state at various levels, including divisions, circles, and headquarters. These cells will operate 24 hours a day, with staff deployed in three shifts: from 6 AM to 2 PM, 2 PM to 10 PM, and 10 PM to 6 AM. To avoid any delays, all information will be logged in a register for immediate action. Citizens can also report fire-related incidents.

Information received from districts will be promptly forwarded to the control cell at the headquarters. For public convenience, helpline numbers have been issued in Lucknow: 0522-2977310, 0522-2204676, 9651368060, and 7017112077. Local helpline numbers will also be made available in other districts for citizens and officials from other departments. The Forest Survey of India in Dehradun has registered 3,792 officials, employees, and citizens for forest fire alert notifications on its website.

The forest fire season in the state is considered to last until June 15. Based on previous years’ incidents, areas identified as highly sensitive and moderately sensitive include Chitrakoot, Sonbhadra, Pilibhit Tiger Reserve, Katarniaghat Wildlife Division, Bahraich, Maharajganj, Dudhwa National Park, North Kheri-South Kheri, Balrampur, Saharanpur, Bijnor, Gonda, Gorakhpur, Mirzapur, Chandauli, Lalitpur, Banda, Hamirpur, Varanasi, and Kaimur Wildlife Division. Mock drills for forest fires have already been conducted in these regions. District-level committees have also been formed under the chairmanship of the District Magistrate in sensitive districts.

Aditi Sharma, Chief Conservator of Forests (Public Relations) in Uttar Pradesh, stated that all preparations for forest fire control have been completed as per Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s directives. Immediate notification to the headquarters is mandated for any fire-related information at the divisional level. A helpline number has also been issued at the headquarters for public convenience. Additionally, efforts are underway to ensure a reliable water supply for wildlife within forest areas by constructing new water holes and repairing old ones. Maintenance of watchtowers is also being prioritized.
