Imphal, March 1: Authorities reported on Sunday that a significant incident was averted near the Integrated Check Post (ICP) in Moreh, close to the ‘Friendship Bridge’ on the India-Myanmar border due to timely intervention by the army and Assam Rifles following a forest fire.
A defense spokesperson stated that the fire, which broke out in the forest area near the ‘Friendship Bridge’ ICP in Tengnoupal district, was quickly controlled thanks to the alert soldiers stationed along the international boundary.
Vigilant personnel deployed in the border area swiftly detected the fire. Upon noticing smoke rising from the nearby forest, the soldiers assessed the situation and promptly arrived at the scene. Given the fire’s proximity to sensitive areas around the ICP, immediate action was crucial.
Security forces initiated measures to extinguish the fire, including creating firebreaks and utilizing available firefighting resources. The spokesperson noted that coordinated and timely actions prevented the fire from spreading to critical infrastructure and surrounding areas.
Continuous monitoring of the affected area was conducted to ensure the fire was fully extinguished and to eliminate any possibility of re-ignition. All safety protocols were strictly followed during the operation, ensuring the safety of nearby residents, security personnel, and property. The fire was successfully contained without any damage or casualties.
An official statement highlighted that this incident demonstrates the high level of vigilance maintained along the international boundary. It reflects the commitment of the forces not only to border security but also to environmental protection and the safety of local communities.
