Final Phase of Special Intensive Voter List Revision Begins in Jharkhand

Ranchi, October 1 (Daily Kiran) : The final phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Jharkhand commenced on Thursday. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will now visit the homes of voters who received notices to collect essential documents related to their eligibility.

Over 6.3 million voters have been issued notices during this revision process. These voters include those with discrepancies in their records, issues with mapping from old voter records, or similar demographic information concerns.

According to the Chief Electoral Officer’s office, BLOs will gather the necessary documents from households and upload them onto the Election Commission‘s portal. Following this, the respective Electoral Registration Officers will verify the documents and make decisions as per regulations. The period for filing claims and objections under SIR ended on September 30, during which a significant number of applications for adding names, removing names, and correcting details in the voter list were received.

The electoral machinery will now digitize these applications and objections, conduct verifications, issue notices as needed, and initiate hearings. The deadline for resolving all matters is set for October 14, with the final voter list scheduled for publication on October 19. The electoral department faces the critical task of addressing a large volume of cases within a limited timeframe. They must verify over 6 million documents related to the notices and also handle the applications received during the claims and objections period.

This process must be completed within the designated timeframe at the levels of BLOs and Electoral Registration Officers. The Chief Electoral Officer’s office indicated that Jharkhand had requested an additional 60 days from the Election Commission to complete the SIR process, but this request has not yet been accepted. Therefore, the procedure will proceed according to the existing schedule.

As per the electoral department’s timeline, all claims and objections must be resolved by October 14, after which the final voter list will be prepared for publication on October 19. The focus of the electoral machinery is now on gathering documents from the notified voters, reviewing applications, conducting hearings as necessary, and completing the final decision-making process.
