Farmer Leader Criticizes Senior Figures for Undermining Movement

Batala, August 20: Farmer leader Sukjeet Singh has openly criticized certain senior figures within the farmer movement. He accused them of seeking personal gains, escalating conflicts, and weakening the overall movement. He urged their organizations to remove these leaders from their positions to better protect farmers’ interests.

In an interview, Sukjeet emphasized that as long as these leaders remain in charge with their “ego and arrogance,” no solutions to farmers’ issues will emerge. He called upon the organizations’ cadres to take action against any leader acting improperly and to appoint someone more capable.

Regarding the ongoing disputes among farmer leaders, Sukjeet noted, “These conflicts arose during the last Delhi movement. Some individuals made mistakes, and although the movement was prolonged, it succeeded because people from across the country participated. During this movement, those making errors were held accountable, which pressured the government to repeal the law we opposed.”

He stated, “As long as these leaders remain in charge, no resolution will be found. A senior leader from a major farmer organization accused another of violating the code of conduct, while the accused claimed the accuser had also breached it. I assert that until these old leaders manage their organizations with their ‘ego and arrogance,’ no resolution will come. They are not fighting for the people; they are fighting for themselves.”

Sukjeet further remarked that one leader claims, “I am the senior one,” while another counters, “I am the senior one.” This rivalry is detrimental to the farmer movement and the laborers, for whom they should genuinely advocate. He believes the public should have the right to remove such leaders, just as political parties can be ousted. “I openly state that if I make a mistake, remove me and appoint someone better. I urge the cadres of these organizations to take action against any leader acting improperly and to appoint someone more capable who can genuinely advocate for you, rather than someone who merely seeks to enrich themselves or portray themselves as a national leader using the organization.”
