Enhanced Security Measures for Eid-ul-Fitr Celebrations Across India

New Delhi, March 20: As the nation prepares to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr, security arrangements have been tightened across various regions. This comes as worshippers gather for prayers on the last day of Ramadan.

Religious leaders have announced that Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated in India on Saturday, as the moon was not sighted on Thursday evening. However, in Kerala, the festival was observed on Friday.

In Uttarakhand, Hardoi’s Superintendent of Police (SP) Ashok Kumar Meena stated that extensive security measures have been implemented due to the Eid-ul-Fitr festival and the ongoing Chaitra Navratri. “We are conducting flag marches in several locations for today’s ‘Alvida Namaz’ and have deployed police personnel at all mosques. The district has been divided into sectors and zones, ensuring no disturbances. We are also monitoring any potential antisocial elements,” he said.

Heavy police presence was noted in Uttam Nagar, Delhi, prompting the Delhi High Court to issue directives for local police and civil administration to ensure a safe and peaceful environment during the Eid celebrations. Tensions have persisted in the area since the murder of 26-year-old Tarun Kumar during Holi celebrations on March 4.

Following a route march, SP Shri Elmaran Ji from Mau, Uttar Pradesh, stated, “We are conducting thorough patrols and checks. In addition to police in civilian attire, personnel from the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) will also be deployed. We have held meetings at both district and police levels.” He also mentioned that drones will be used for surveillance throughout the festival.

In Bihar, the sensitive Bhagalpur district has been placed on high alert ahead of Eid, Chhath, and Ram Navami festivals. Various security forces and committees have received special instructions. Senior Superintendent of Police Pramod Kumar Yadav conducted a mock drill in Bhagalpur as part of the preparations. District Magistrate Naval Kishore Chaudhary informed the media that given the multiple festivals in March and the city’s sensitivity, the administration is on high alert and actively monitoring the situation.

In Hyderabad’s old city, security has been heightened with strict measures around the Mecca Masjid and Charminar to ensure a peaceful gathering for Juma-tul-Wida (the last Friday before Eid-ul-Fitr). After prayers at a mosque in Mangaluru, Karnataka, Assembly Speaker U.T. Khader Farid extended warm wishes for Eid-ul-Fitr, emphasizing that every religious festival promotes peace, cultural sharing, unity, and a harmonious society. Large crowds of Muslim worshippers were also seen in Madurai and Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, for special prayers.

Meanwhile, while Eid-ul-Fitr was being celebrated in Kerala on Friday, candidates from the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front, the Congress-led United Democratic Front, and the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance visited prayer sites across the state in light of the upcoming assembly elections on April 9.
