
New Delhi, June 17: In the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, England achieved its second consecutive victory by defeating Ireland by 4 wickets at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Southampton.
Chasing a target of 119 runs set by Ireland, England’s start was rocky. Amy Jones was dismissed for just 9 runs. Dan Wyatt, who scored a century in the previous match, managed only 16 runs before getting out. Alice Capsy also fell early, scoring just 5 runs. At 35 runs, England found themselves in trouble, losing 3 wickets. However, captain Nat Sciver-Brunt and Heather Knight steadied the innings with a crucial partnership, adding 64 runs for the fourth wicket off 49 balls.
Knight contributed 26 runs from 23 balls, while Sciver-Brunt scored 48 runs before retiring out, hitting 4 boundaries in her innings. Freya Kemp was run out for just 2 runs. Dani Gibson and Charlie Dean remained not out with 4 runs each, guiding England to victory. For Ireland, Amy Maguire and Orla Prendergast each took 2 wickets.
Earlier, Ireland managed to score 118 runs, losing 9 wickets in their 20 overs. Their innings started poorly, with Amy Hunter out for just 6 runs. Captain Gaby Lewis was dismissed without scoring. Alana Delany faced 18 balls for 14 runs, while Prendergast scored 26 runs off 18 balls before being dismissed. Rebecca Stokell and Leah Paul contributed 9 and 10 runs, respectively.
In the final overs, Lewis Little showcased impressive batting, scoring an unbeaten 26 runs off 15 balls, including 5 fours.
