Srinagar, June 21: Engineer Rashid, the Member of Parliament from the Baramulla constituency in Jammu and Kashmir, has expressed his willingness to resign from his position. He stated that he is unable to effectively address the issues and needs of his constituents. However, his party, the Awami Ittihad Party (AIP), has decided to consult the public and party workers before making a final decision on the matter.
According to a statement released by AIP’s chief spokesperson, Inam Un Nabi, the party’s political affairs committee held an extensive discussion on this issue. The committee resolved to conduct comprehensive consultations with party officials and grassroots workers across all 18 assembly segments within the Baramulla parliamentary area.
The statement indicated that Engineer Rashid has acknowledged his inability to fulfill his parliamentary responsibilities and connect effectively with voters. Consequently, he has expressed a desire to step down from his role as MP. In response, the party has initiated a two-day consultation process to gather opinions on whether he should remain in office or resign.
The party also hinted at the possibility of conducting a secret ballot among workers if necessary, allowing all members to express their views without any pressure.
According to AIP, officials at the panchayat and block levels will engage with the general public and various societal segments to gather their opinions. The party emphasized that the final decision will reflect the sentiments of the public and the wishes of the voters who have placed their trust in Engineer Rashid and the party.
The spokesperson stated that the outcomes of the consultation process and potential voting will be formally communicated to Engineer Rashid, enabling him to make an informed final decision considering all perspectives.
AIP reiterated its commitment to the principles of internal democracy and public accountability, asserting that significant political decisions should be based on the collective opinion of party workers and the public.
The party believes that this consultation process will play a crucial role in determining Engineer Rashid’s parliamentary future, ensuring that the voices of workers and voters are given the utmost importance in the final decision.
