Energy Minister Takes Action Against Corruption in Uttar Pradeshs Power Department

Lucknow, March 9: In a decisive move, Energy Minister A.K. Sharma has responded to a viral video linked to illegal extortion within the Uttar Pradesh Power Department. Following an investigation, a contract lineman has been dismissed immediately, and a charge sheet has been issued to the concerned Junior Engineer (JE) for negligence.

Minister Sharma took notice of the viral video concerning a case of power theft in Mau district, prompting him to direct the Chief Engineer to conduct a thorough investigation and take necessary actions. Reports indicate that on February 11, 2026, between 2:40 PM and 2:50 PM, the power department team launched a checking operation in the village of Rakouli, Mau.

During the inspection, Feku Yadav was found operating a private tubewell without any approved electrical connection. Consequently, the department registered a case of power theft against him at the Anti-Power Theft Police Station on February 12, 2026. It was reported that on February 13, Yadav visited the home of contract lineman Yashwant Kumar, also known as TunTun, which was later recorded and went viral on social media.

After the video surfaced, allegedly discussing transactions, Minister Sharma ordered an investigation. The inquiry conducted by the Chief Engineer revealed that the department had filed an FIR within 24 hours at the Anti-Power Theft Police Station regarding the case linked to the 33/11 kV substation in Kotwan. However, due to negligence in control and supervision, a charge sheet is being issued to the concerned Junior Engineer.

Furthermore, Yashwant Kumar has been dismissed from service with immediate effect due to the tarnishing of the department’s image following the discussions about transactions. Minister A.K. Sharma emphasized that any negligence or involvement in cases of power theft, corruption, or illegal extortion will not be tolerated. He instructed officials to ensure strict action against those found guilty in such matters.
