Emergency Air Drop of Relief Supplies in Bihars Flood-Hit Panapur

Saran, October 1 (Daily Kiran) : In a swift response to the flooding crisis in Bihar’s Saran district, emergency air drops of dry ration supplies were conducted on Thursday in the affected areas of Panapur block. Following directives from the Chief Minister, a helicopter took off from the State Hangar in Patna to deliver essential aid.

The District Magistrate of Patna was present at the scene to oversee the air drop operations. According to the Disaster Management Department, the Saran district administration had requested additional ration packets to assist those impacted by the floods.

Acting quickly on the Chief Minister’s orders, another helicopter was dispatched from Gorakhpur to facilitate the air drops. This initiative aims to ensure that food supplies reach communities cut off due to rising floodwaters.

Guided by Bihar’s Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit and the principal secretary of the Disaster Management Department, Santosh Kumar Mall, departmental joint secretary Avinash Kumar and executive engineer Mo. Asif Iqbal from the Water Resources Department were also on-site to assess the air drop arrangements.

Recent reports from the Central Flood Control Room indicate that heavy rainfall in the catchment areas of the Gandak River in Nepal has led to an unprecedented surge in water levels. This has resulted in significant damage to several embankments and landholder dams across districts including West Champaran, Gopalganj, Saran, and Muzaffarpur.

Specific damages reported include the Champaran embankment at 59.60 kilometers in Phuliya Khand village of West Champaran and 38 kilometers in Golaghat Bhavanipur village of Yogapatti block. In Gopalganj, 4.60 kilometers of the Bandhauli-Sheetalpur-Faijullahpur landholder dam have been affected.

In Saran district, damages were recorded at 45 and 46.40 kilometers along the Saran embankment in Bagha Khol and Hazalpur villages, respectively, and at 76.60 kilometers in Bhagwanpur Sarojha village of Panapur block. Additionally, 0.35 kilometers of the Madhopur Hajari ring dam in Muzaffarpur’s Sahebganj block has also suffered damage.

The Water Resources Department has assured that continuous flood-fighting measures are being implemented at all affected sites. The state government is committed to taking necessary steps to deliver relief supplies to impacted families and ensure swift assistance in flood-affected regions.
