Jaipur, September 2: Political activity is intensifying in Rajasthan ahead of the upcoming municipal elections. In this context, Congress state president Govind Singh Dotasra launched a verbal attack on the BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) regarding the FIR filed against Rahul Gandhi.
He accused them of taking action against Gandhi for raising issues related to the right to equality and the dignity of Dalits, while no action has been taken in the alleged ‘purification’ case involving Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge. Dotasra stated that the mindset of the BJP and RSS resembles that of Nathuram Godse, whereas the Congress adheres to the ideology of Mahatma Gandhi, who advocated for inclusivity and equality among all sections of society.
Dotasra also referenced the alleged purification incident following the temple visit of Rajasthan’s Leader of Opposition, Tikaram Julie. He emphasized that Kharge, as a seasoned politician and the national president of Congress, deserves respect. If such incidents occur after his programs, it is not just an insult to one individual but a matter of respect for millions of Dalits in the country. He affirmed that Rahul Gandhi is fearless and engages in politics not for personal gain but for the nation. The FIR will not deter Congress, which plans to protest against it.
He noted that due to the deadline for nominations in the municipal elections, Congress could not organize protests earlier, but now the party will take action on this issue. Dotasra accused the central government of undermining democratic institutions and the spirit of the Constitution, asserting that the public is paramount and that democracy is defined by the will of the people.
On the topic of GDP growth, Dotasra questioned the central government’s claims. He alleged that the government is manipulating the method of GDP calculation to present an inflated growth rate. If the economy is genuinely strengthening, why are job opportunities declining and farmers protesting? He highlighted initiatives from the UPA government, such as the Right to Food, Right to Education, and MGNREGA, stating that merely renaming these programs does not alter their fundamental essence.
Regarding dissatisfaction within Congress over ticket distribution for the municipal elections, Dotasra acknowledged that it is impossible for everyone to receive a ticket in politics. He assured that the party would engage with disgruntled members and strive to provide appropriate recognition in future organizational roles, boards, and corporations. In Rajasthan’s 309 municipal bodies, approximately 11,500 party symbols have been allocated, the highest in Congress’s history, with many young and educated candidates being given opportunities.
Dotasra also mentioned the investigation into the failure to submit 14 party symbols in Bhilwara. He stated that Congress would form a committee to investigate the matter and would pursue legal action if administrative errors are found. He accused BJP legislators of allegedly arriving at the nomination process under police protection in Osian and Mathania, calling it unfortunate for democracy and questioning the role of the administration.
Attacking the Rajasthan BJP government, Dotasra claimed that crime has increased over the past two and a half years, with no significant new development projects or effective policies in sight. He accused the government of merely making announcements and delivering speeches without tangible results.
