New Delhi, September 2: BJP spokesperson Gaurav Vallabh stated that the Indian economy’s GDP growth of 7.8% in the first quarter of the current financial year reflects its strength. He emphasized that India is the only shining star in the world. Vallabh criticized Rahul Gandhi for labeling the economy as a “dead economy,” suggesting he should seek treatment for his “mental deadness.”
Vallabh explained, “The 7.8% growth in the first quarter showcases the resilience and strength of India’s economy. It is essential to consider that in the previous three financial years—2024, 2025, and 2026—India’s GDP growth was 7.2%, 7.1%, and 7.7%, respectively. This year, we have achieved 7.8%. Notably, while India has traditionally been viewed as a service economy, this time our growth engine is dual. Manufacturing grew by 9.2%, and the service industry saw a 10% increase. India’s economy is now advancing with a dual-engine growth model. The agricultural sector, often criticized, also performed impressively with a GDP growth of 3.6%. India is not only the fastest-growing economy but has also emerged as one of the strongest globally.”
He further pointed out that the average global GDP growth is 2.9%, while India’s first-quarter growth stands at 7.8%. In comparison, the United States is growing at 1.5%, China at 4%, and other countries like Malaysia and Indonesia are seeing growth between 5% and 5.5%. Vallabh reiterated that India is the only bright star in the global economy, with growth driven by multiple sectors.
The BJP leader noted that retail inflation, as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), was around 4.4% in July 2026. With high growth, low inflation, and job creation statistics, India has generated 17.2 million new jobs between 2015 and 2024, averaging about 1.9 million jobs annually.
Responding to Rahul Gandhi’s comments, Vallabh remarked that those who harbor negative sentiments towards India and oppose the government while criticizing the economy should consider addressing their “mental deadness.”
In response to another question, Vallabh highlighted Prime Minister Modi’s appeal for promoting domestic tourism. He stated that India has beautiful destinations that should be explored instead of traveling abroad for destination weddings. He mentioned that Udaipur is more beautiful than any European city, and the tourism spots in Kerala and North-East India are exceptional.
Vallabh also advised postponing gold purchases, explaining that money invested in gold becomes stagnant. Instead, he suggested investing in banks or mutual funds to circulate money within the economy. He clarified that there is no ban on buying gold, but it should be avoided if not necessary.
