Flood Response in Chitrakoot: 688 Rescued as Mandakini River Levels Decline

Chitrakoot, September 4 (Daily Kiran) : The government of Uttar Pradesh is actively engaged in flood relief efforts in Chitrakoot, following a significant rise in the Mandakini River’s water levels. After peaking at 135.20 meters on August 29, the water level has now decreased to 128.00 meters.

Despite this decline, local authorities remain vigilant. According to the Uttar Pradesh Relief Commissioner’s office, 688 individuals have been safely relocated to higher ground, with no reported fatalities among people or livestock due to the flooding. A team of 30 members from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and 27 members from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are on-site to assist in rescue operations.

Local administrative teams are consistently active in affected areas. The rising water has impacted 36 villages, including 19 in Karwi, seven in Rajapur, and ten in Manikpur. Relief efforts have reached approximately 13,906 residents, providing food, essential supplies, and medical assistance.

To ensure immediate food availability, large-scale arrangements have been made. A total of 28,803 lunch packets have been distributed: 24,530 in Karwi, 4,043 in Rajapur, and 230 in Manikpur. Relief kits are also being distributed to affected families, with 2,065 kits provided so far across the regions.

Eighteen flood shelters are currently operational in the district to offer safe refuge. The flooding has partially damaged 653 homes, with financial aid of 7.52 lakh rupees already disbursed to 188 beneficiaries. One case of complete damage has received 1.20 lakh rupees, with further payments ongoing.

To bolster health services in flood-affected areas, 28 medical teams are conducting health checks and distributing necessary medications. Additionally, a survey is underway to assess crop damage and provide relief to farmers.

In a separate incident in Ghazipur, the rising Ganges River has led to a rescue operation for 12 shepherds and over 2,000 sheep stranded on an island. After a six-hour operation, authorities successfully reached the stranded individuals using night vision drones to locate them. Local villagers praised the prompt action taken by the police and administration during this critical situation.
