New Delhi, September 1: The ruling National Conference (NC) in Jammu and Kashmir has announced plans for a peaceful protest outside the offices of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Jammu and Srinagar. This demonstration aims to pressure the central government to fulfill its commitments made to the people of the union territory in Parliament and the Supreme Court.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have previously stated that Jammu and Kashmir will be granted statehood at the “right time.”
The Indian government has also assured the Supreme Court that statehood will be restored to Jammu and Kashmir.
In light of these assurances, the NC declared that it would stage a peaceful sit-in at the BJP headquarters in both cities on Wednesday, September 2. The purpose of this action is to hold the central government accountable for its promises made in Parliament and the Supreme Court.
The National Conference issued a statement on its official social media account, indicating that the upcoming protest will focus on its longstanding demands related to Jammu and Kashmir.
These demands include the restoration of statehood, constitutional guarantees, approval of the reservation file, and ensuring justice for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The NC emphasized that this proposed action aims to ensure accountability from the central government regarding its commitments.
The party stated, “The mandate of the people of Jammu and Kashmir is not a blank check. It must be respected and not taken lightly.” They described the planned protest as peaceful and urged that their demands be addressed through political and democratic means.
Earlier, the NC had also protested at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi at the start of the Parliament’s monsoon session to press the central government for the restoration of statehood for Jammu and Kashmir.
