Bishkek, September 1: At the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in the capital of Kyrgyzstan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is leading a high-level Indian delegation. Among the members is External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, who shared images of his brief meetings with his Russian and Iranian counterparts on social media.
In his post, Jaishankar mentioned, “Had a brief meeting with the Foreign Ministers of Iran and Russia on the sidelines of the SCO Summit 2026.”
The photos he shared are significant. One features him alongside Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, while another shows him in a relaxed conversation with his Iranian counterpart.
Additionally, Jaishankar shared a photo of his meeting with Tajikistan’s Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin, noting that they had a productive discussion.
He also expressed his pleasure in meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, a member of the Politburo.
The 26th SCO Summit is being held on September 1, 2026, in Bishkek, marking the 25th anniversary of the organization’s establishment. The theme of the summit is to work together for lasting peace, development, and prosperity.
Key leaders attending the summit include Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Russian President Vladimir Putin. The interactions among Modi, Putin, and Jinping have also garnered significant attention, with Modi holding separate bilateral meetings with both leaders.
During his address at the SCO Summit, PM Modi emphasized the need for collective action against terrorism. In the presence of Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, he stated that there should be no double standards on the issue of terrorism and advocated for dismantling the entire ecosystem of terrorism.
