Tragic Collision in Villupuram Claims One Life, Several Injured

Villupuram, September 30 (Daily Kiran) : A tragic accident occurred in Villupuram, Tamil Nadu, on September 30, resulting in the death of one passenger and injuries to several others. The collision involved a bus and a truck, leading to a significant traffic jam on the Trichy-Chennai National Highway that extended for over two kilometers.

The incident took place near the Kannikapuram bus stop in Tindivanam. The bus, operated by Mettur Travels, was en route from Pollachi to Chennai with 38 passengers on board. As the bus approached the Kannikapuram stop, a truck in front suddenly swerved to the right. The bus driver was unprepared for this abrupt maneuver and attempted to stop, but was unsuccessful, resulting in a violent collision with the truck.

The truck’s guard rails penetrated the front of the bus, fatally injuring a passenger named Nandakumar from Tirupur, who was seated at the front. He suffered severe injuries from the rods and died at the scene.

Following the accident, the truck fled the scene without stopping. In an effort to avoid the collision, two other trucks traveling behind slammed on their brakes, causing them to lose balance and overturn on the highway.

Emergency services from the Tindivanam Fire Department arrived promptly. They removed the truck’s side rods that were stuck in the bus and extricated the deceased, sending the body to the Villupuram Mundiyambakkam Government Medical College Hospital for postmortem. Some passengers on the bus sustained minor injuries.

The police have registered a case and are investigating the accident. They cleared the wreckage from the highway to restore traffic flow, and further proceedings are ongoing.
