
Patiala, September 30 (Daily Kiran) : In Punjab, a total of 52 incidents of crop burning have been reported as of September 29, 2026. Government data indicates that inspections have been conducted at 42 fields, with physical evidence of burning confirmed at 16 locations.
Amritsar has seen the highest number of incidents, with 30 reported cases. Inspections were carried out at 20 fields, leading to the confirmation of burning signs at four sites. In one case, an environmental penalty of ₹5,000 was imposed, and the full amount was collected.
Other districts reported fewer incidents: Tarn Taran had eight cases, Ferozepur five, Gurudaspur three, and Moga two. Additionally, one incident each was recorded in Fazilka, Hoshiarpur, SBS Nagar, and Patiala. In total, environmental penalties have been imposed in 11 cases, amounting to ₹55,000, with ₹25,000 already recovered.
In Tarn Taran, all eight incidents were inspected, confirming burning at five locations. Here, four cases resulted in a total penalty of ₹20,000, with ₹10,000 recovered. The field records also show five red entries.
Ferozepur’s five reported incidents were all inspected, revealing burning signs at all locations. Four cases led to a penalty of ₹20,000, with ₹5,000 recovered, and four red entries noted in the field records.
In Patiala, one incident was reported. Inspections confirmed burning signs, and a penalty of ₹5,000 was imposed. This case has also been linked to an FIR in government records.
Overall, there has been one FIR filed, nine red entries in field records, and four warning/show-cause notices issued. However, no charges or suspensions have been reported against nodal or supervisory officials.
