Thoothukudi, October 11 (Daily Kiran) : The Dussehra festival commenced on Sunday at the Mutharamman Temple in Kulasekarapattinam, Tamil Nadu, marked by a traditional flag hoisting ceremony. To ensure the safety and order of devotees, extensive security arrangements were implemented both inside and around the temple.

For the event, a total of 1,000 police personnel were deployed from the districts of Madurai, Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar, Sivaganga, Kanyakumari, and Thoothukudi. The main ritual, known as ‘Surasamharam,’ is scheduled for the night of October 20.

Superintendent of Police Shivaprasad is overseeing the security measures. His team includes two additional superintendents, one assistant superintendent, five deputy superintendents, and 32 inspectors and sub-inspectors. In addition to uniformed officers, 50 plainclothes officers will monitor the crowd, enhancing security during the festival.

Around 80 CCTV cameras have been installed in and around the temple to assist in surveillance. These cameras will help the police keep a close watch on activities within the areas covered by security arrangements.

The district police department has assured that all necessary steps have been taken to ensure the safety of devotees and maintain law and order. This includes monitoring the vicinity of the temple and keeping an eye on any illegal activities. The police emphasized that individuals involved in unlawful acts will be closely monitored and face strict action under the law.
