Second Namcha Barwa Forum Achieves Key Milestones in Nyingchi, Tibet

Nyingchi, October 11 (Daily Kiran) : The Second Namcha Barwa Forum took place on October 10 in Nyingchi, Tibet, under the theme “Empowerment through Technology, Green Plateau.” The event featured a main session and two thematic discussions, where experts and industry representatives addressed issues related to ecological conservation, climate risks, disaster prevention, and regional cooperation.

During the main session, specialists shared insights on the disaster risks posed by climate change on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and discussed preventive measures. They also presented findings on the impacts of climate change on the ecosystems surrounding glaciers and biodiversity, as well as assessments of the dangers posed by avalanches and glacial lake outburst floods in Asia’s key water source regions.

In the evening press conference, five major achievements from the forum were announced. Firstly, creative work proposals were developed. Secondly, a report was released evaluating the achievements related to the national ecological civilization construction during the “14th Five-Year Plan” (2021-2025) in Tibet.

Thirdly, findings from the second Qinghai-Tibet scientific expedition indicated that the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is undergoing a third phase of environmental change. Fourthly, a proposal for a Namcha Barwa technology initiative was introduced. Lastly, an agreement was reached on coordinated conservation efforts among Tibet, Qinghai, Sichuan, and Yunnan provinces.

This forum marks a significant step in promoting green development and ecological protection in the plateau region.
