Vladivostok, October 11 (Daily Kiran) : The Indian and Russian navies are joining forces once again to enhance maritime cooperation. The Indian warship INS Sahyadri arrived in Vladivostok on October 10, ready to participate in the bilateral naval exercise ‘Indra-2026.’ This exercise is set to bolster the longstanding defense partnership between the two nations.
Scheduled to take place from October 13 to 18, the exercise aims to improve coordination between the two navies, foster understanding of each other’s operational methods, and enhance their collaborative capabilities at sea. Activities will showcase seamless cooperation from port to sea. The first phase of ‘Indra-2026’ will include various activities at the port, allowing both navies to share experiences through professional discussions and maritime drills. This will aid in establishing better coordination for joint operations.
Following the port activities, the navies will conduct joint maneuvers at sea. The exercise will not only focus on military operations but will also feature social and cultural events. These programs will provide sailors with opportunities to understand each other’s cultures and strengthen interpersonal relations. The deployment of INS Sahyadri is part of India’s long-standing defense and maritime cooperation with Russia, aligning with the Indian government’s ‘Oceans’ vision that emphasizes regional maritime partnerships.
This exercise also serves to build on the momentum from the 23rd annual summit between India and Russia held in December 2025. Regular exercises and professional dialogues between the two navies will enhance mutual understanding and strengthen their ability to operate together at sea. The ‘Indra’ naval exercise is a significant opportunity to reinforce maritime relations and increase operational capabilities between India and Russia.
Additionally, a crucial meeting took place in New Delhi earlier this week, focusing on advancing defense cooperation between the two nations. This meeting reviewed existing military-technical collaboration and discussed new possibilities for joint production and development of defense equipment, marking a significant step in strengthening their long-standing strategic defense partnership.
