DMK Allies Welcome Tamil Nadu Assured Pension Scheme Launch

Chennai: Allies of the ruling DMK government have welcomed the Tamil Nadu government’s decision to implement the Tamil Nadu Assured Pension Scheme. They described the move as a historic reform, responding to a long-standing demand from government employees and teachers. The scheme aims to provide respect and financial security to retirees.

Leaders associated with the DMK stated that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s announcement is the result of nearly two decades of continuous struggle. They highlighted that although the scheme will involve significant financial expenditure, it reflects the state’s commitment to fulfilling electoral promises and safeguarding social security.

K. Selvarperunthagai, President of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee, noted that the implementation ends a 20-year-old campaign led by employee and teacher organisations. While acknowledging the increased financial burden on the state, he added that the government’s decision demonstrates political will and credibility in honouring commitments made to employees.

Selvarperunthagai further mentioned that the scheme has received widespread support from employee and teacher groups. Welcoming the move, Thol Thirumavalavan, President of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, said the scheme will provide much-needed relief to government employees seeking pension security post-retirement. He also thanked the Chief Minister for positively responding to this longstanding emotional demand.

P. Shanmugam, State Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), said the scheme largely restores key features of the old pension plan, which employees had secured through years of persistent struggle.

Selvarperunthagai urged the state government to issue official orders promptly and to phase-wise address other pending demands of employees and teachers.

According to the allies, the Tamil Nadu Assured Pension Scheme is expected to benefit around nine lakh employees, teachers, and their families, ensuring financial security and dignity after retirement. It also reinforces the state’s commitment to welfare-oriented public policies.
