New Delhi, March 29: On April 2, the festival of Hanuman Jayanti will be celebrated with great enthusiasm across the country. Preparations are underway at ancient and revered Hanuman temples nationwide for this auspicious occasion.
Devotees often perform special prayers to Hanuman Ji for relief from troubles. However, many may not know that there is a temple in Uttar Pradesh where worshippers come from far and wide to seek liberation from physical and mental ailments.
Located near Surapur, on the border of Jaunpur and Sultanpur districts, Bijethua Mahabirn Dham has a history linked to the Ramayana. It is believed that when Lakshman fell unconscious due to an arrow, Hanuman visited this very spot during the Treta Yuga to vanquish the demon Kalnemi and took rest here. Nearby, there is a mysterious pond known as Makri, where bathing is said to alleviate all life’s hardships. Devotees often bathe in this pond before seeking blessings from Hanuman Ji and take the holy water home.
The idol in the temple’s sanctum is considered self-manifested. Archaeologists attempted to trace the idol’s origins through excavation but could not find the end of Hanuman Ji’s right foot. Exhausted, they abandoned the dig, which is why the idol is regarded as miraculous. After viewing the idol, devotees perform circumambulation and tie bells on the trees in the temple complex.
Tuesdays and Saturdays see a significant influx of devotees at the temple. Many tie bells as offerings for their wishes and, upon fulfillment, perform Hanuman path and donate according to their faith. Each year, a grand celebration is held at the temple for Hanuman Jayanti, where it is adorned with flowers and lights, and recitations of Hanuman Chalisa and Bajrang Baan take place.
During Hanuman Jayanti, millions of devotees flock to the temple. Special arrangements are made to accommodate the influx of visitors. If you plan to visit Bijethua Mahabirn Dham during Hanuman Jayanti, make sure to stop by the nearby Dhopap Temple, where it is believed that Lord Shri Ram atoned for his sins after defeating Ravana.
