New Delhi, April 9: Devotees hold deep reverence for Lord Hanuman. It is said that wherever the Ram Katha is recited, a space is always reserved for Balaji.
Did you know where Lord Hanuman was born? Many locations are believed to be his birthplace, stretching from Maharashtra to Jharkhand. Today, we focus on an ancient site located at an elevation of 516 meters on the hills of Hampi.
On the summit of Anjanadri Hill, situated in the Gangavathi taluka of Karnataka’s Koppal district, lies an ancient temple dedicated to Hanuman, regarded as his birthplace. Some legends connect this site to the realm of the monkey kings, Bali and Sugriva, where Hanuman facilitated the first meeting between Sugriva and Lord Rama.
To reach the temple at the hilltop, devotees must ascend approximately 462 steps. From the summit, visitors are treated to breathtaking views of Hampi’s monuments and the Tungabhadra River. The hill also offers stunning sunrises and sunsets, attracting hundreds of devotees daily.
The steps leading to the temple are narrow and steep, carved into the mountain, making the journey quite challenging. According to mythology, the hill is named after Hanuman’s mother, Anjana Devi, who resided here after marrying the monkey warrior Kesari.
Legend has it that Hanuman was born on this very mountain and that he leaped from here to swallow the sun. Local folklore regards Hanuman as a divine incarnation of Lord Shiva in the Pampa region. Each year, Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated with great fervor, drawing thousands of devotees from across the state to complete the pilgrimage to this hill. Besides its religious significance, Anjanadri Hill is also renowned for its natural beauty.
